TOUR DESCRIPTION

Together we’ll discover the “Italian Versailles“, the sumptuous Reggia di Caserta, constructed by Luigi Vanvitelli for Carlo III Boubon and inspired by the famous Versailles in France.

Carlo III’s objective was to construct a palace that reflected the grandeur of his kingdom, deliberately constructed outside the city of Naples in order to be defended from eventual attacks from the sea. It took 22 years, from 1752 to 1774, to build the palace, park and aqueduct.

We enter by the large entrance atrium and the scenografic marble staircase that leads to the “Cappella Palatina” and the Royal Apartments. There are 1.200 rooms among which the splendid “Court Theater” and the “old Apartment” which holds

an ancient “presepe” composed of more than 2.000 pieces.

The beauty of the Reggia culminates in the visit to the park: crossed by the grand Carolino Aqueduct rich in waterfalls and statuary, the park covers an area of 120 hectares leading up to the Fountains of  Venusand and Adonis a pefect example of Baroque and Rococo Art forms.

Inside the park there is also the English Garden built for the Queen Maria Carolina, a botanical garden that emulates nature in all its aspects: this fairytale area hosts water courses, lakes, a great number of exotic plants and some artificial Roman ruins related at to the discovery of the nearby Pompei.
